Position : Chief Representative & Head of Sector Coverage Indonesia

Reporting to : Head of Southeast Asia – Representative Offices and matrix to Head of Sector Coverage APAC

Location : Jakarta, Indonesia

Key Responsibilities

Representative Office Management and Compliance

  • Chair Country Management Committee
  • Overall management of people, premises and communications
  • Responsible for the representative office’s compliance with all local regulations relevant to all activities of the bank
  • Ultimate responsibility for the safety of the bank, ensuring that the representative office operates within all the risk limits and local/global regulatory requirements
  • Responsible to identify possible risks impacting representative office operations (including non-financial risks), assess, report and mitigate risks within the agreed time period
  • Lead, motivate and train staff to manage the business in compliance with Indonesian laws and regulations that also conforms to global standards and is cost efficient and effective
  • Be actively involved in all matters and issues related to local reporting and representative office compliance
  • Maintain and improve representative office relationship with all regulatory bodies


  • Drive, develop and lead the effective implementation of the bank’s business strategies and policies to achieve financial and business objectives while ensuring sound and prudent business management in accordance with statutory, regulatory and internal governance requirements
  • Identify, build and manage client relationship, and lead client account planning, for and on behalf of ING Bank NV and in line with the regulatory parameters of Indonesia representative office, including those as imposed by the authorities e.g., Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (“OJK”).
  • Support business with a select group of Indonesian corporates, international clients with presence in Indonesia, FI and NBFI clients for their activities in Indonesia. Support Indonesian corporates investing in countries where ING has the network by connecting them with ING teams. This is to be achieved by coordination with different Sector Coverage/Clients teams and Product groups located in Singapore or any other ING offices
  • Identify business opportunities and develop relationship with clients and potential clients in the Energy (including Renewables), Metals & Mining, Telecom Media Technology & Healthcare, supplemented by Infrastructure, Consumer and FI/NBFI sectors.
  • Identify and cooperate with stakeholders, understand their needs/issues/concerns and propose constructive win-win solutions with the goal of enhancing teamwork and delivering better results
  • Lead Customer-Due-Diligence reporting and ensure the Know-Your-Client business as usual within the agreed risk appetite for other ING offices dealing with Indonesian corporates
  • Ensure awareness and provide inputs as needed to greenlight proposals
  • Join or be involved in relevant industry associations/chambers of commerce to foster networking and achieve market awareness
  • Promote innovation and sustainability

Leadership and People

  • Lead by example. Effective leadership, management, execution and influencing skills
  • Represent the organization in a variety of industry and professional forums in order to promote the company brand; originate and promote desired business through development of high-level contacts in business community as well as the government bodies

We are looking for (key competencies and qualifications)

  • Minimum 15 years wholesale banking experience and preferably about 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Excellent originator of business
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial drive & competitiveness to achieve sustainable results and a passion for success
  • Strong strategic business planning and execution skills with good business acumen, and sound commercial and (credit and non-financial) risk judgments
  • Broad knowledge of wholesale banking products and services (lending, project finance, structured export finance, acquisition/bridge finance, debt capital markets, financial markets, hedging, corporate or project advisory, etc.), as well as banking regulations and policies
  • Good understanding of relevant industry sectors (e.g., Energy/Renewables, Telecom Media Technology & Healthcare, Infrastructure, Metal & Mining, Consumer, Food & Agri, Banks, Non-Bank Financial Institutions)
  • Have access to and/or prior relationship with key market players (e.g., local conglomerates, local and international corporates, state-owned enterprises, development financial institutions, export credit agencies, peers/competitors, etc.) and well familiar with the market dynamics in Indonesia
  • Experience in dealing with senior management within the organization, with peers and clients as well as regulators
  • Strong capability to develop and maintain networks
  • International experience is a plus

  • Innovative and strategic mindset, challenging the status quo and bringing the outside in
  • Good command of English and Bahasa Indonesia (both spoken and written)
